All our students are welcome to join our new discussion club Human Rights Tribune (HuRT), and participate in discussions, workshops, movie sessions, guided exhibitions, Prague tours, pub talks, and many other events. Human rights education is instrumental for a more secure and peaceful world. Therefore, we want to increase human rights awareness among young people while supporting students’ social activities.
In 2024, the club organized several events at MUP, including a discussion with Tomáš Bendl, the Head of Communication for Doctors Without Borders, Czech Republic, on The Humanitarian Situation in Gaza since October 2023, and a lecture by Prof. Cecilie Jacob from Australian National University titled Does Responsibility to Protect (R2P) have a Future?. Students also visited the Lemkin Train exhibition on Prague’s Masaryk Railway Station, organized by the Terezín Center for Genocide Studies, and the exhibition The Pain of Others at the DOX Center for Contemporary Art. During the One World Documentary Film Festival, students attended a Special Screening to Commemorate the Start of the War in Ukraine, which included award-winning documentaries Spring in Bucha and A House Made of Splinters, followed by a debate on Ukraine One Year Later: What Awaits Ukraine after the War, and What Role Can the Czech Republic Play?
The first meeting in the 2024-2025 academic year will take place on October 21, 2024, from 16:00 in room 305 in the MUP’s Dubecska building.
If you are interested in actively participating in organizing HuRT events, please contact the Head of the IRES Department, Šárka Kolmašová (sarka.kolmasova@mup.cz).
